Handsome Jesse is a 6 year old Collie cross male. He used to live on a farm but has a bit of wander lust and was picked up in town by the dog catcher one too many times that his owner decided not to take him back. Jesse should go to a home with a fenced in yard and with someone to give him lots of exercise or to a farm/acreage with no nearby neighbours.
Jesse loves to go for walks, both on and off leash. He's been on a few walks at St. Cyr trails with up to 15 other dogs and did great! However, in the shelter setting he's seems dominant over with other dominant dogs and does do some fence fighting...though when hiking at St. Cyr with the same dogs there were no issues, so we believe it's a "territory" situation. He would do best in a situation as an only dog, or with another submissive dog. Jesse got to spend Christmas holidays on a farm and foster mom says this about his time there: "If he was alone, I think he would stay. It was my old collie who led him out of the farm. He got along fine with all the rabbits, ducks and chickens, and loved watching them through the fence! He has a lot of respect for boundaries and wants to please. He respects a choker collar and never pulls on it. I like him very much and wish I could keep him! He was great with our cats and only barked at the one horse that dared to play with him, not the other one. I am working on his obedience and am very impressed with his ability to learn. He is a clever dog who likely would have stayed put if it weren't for the older dog leading him off the property"
Jesse loves car rides and is an awesome traveler! He is good with cats. He is very playful and loves toys, rawhides, and a good game of fetch.
He is excellently socialized with kids. He came from a home with older kids, and spent some time with some younger kids at a "Best Friends" photo shoot and did well. He should probably go to a home with older kids as he's a large dog and could easily knock over a toddler. He loves when students from the community come to the shelter and take him for walks. He's developed some pretty strong bonds with some of the students, and had their parents not said no, he'd be theirs!
Jesse wants nothing more than to settle down and be a part of a family again.
